I Speak For Myself: Volume 1, American Women on Being Muslim

WASHINGTON D.C. – On Wednesday, 7th September 2011, Zahra Suratwala attended the Eid Reception at the State Department in Washington D.C., hosted by Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. In her speech, Secretary Clinton honored American Muslims’ contribution to American society. She also encouraged all the attendees to “recommit ourselves to the common cause of spreading peace, prosperity and understanding to all the people of the earth.”

After Secretary Clinton concluded her remarks, Zahra was able to meet her in person. Zahra introduced herself as the co-editor of the book “I Speak for Myself: American Women on Being Muslim” and gave Mrs. Clinton a copy. Zahra also informed Secretary Clinton that she is working on the 2nd book in the “I Speak for Myself” series. Secretary Clinton was very excited to hear this news and to receive the book, with graciousness and warmth. We are grateful to Secretary Clinton, Farah Pandith and the State Department for this wonderful opportunity.

Please visit the “I Speak for Myself” website for more information about the book series.
